(CNN) — U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Tuesday the end of its wave of strikes on Iran on Monday.
Centcom said in a statement on the "X" platform (formerly Twitter): "During the five-hour mission, US forces succeeded in striking military targets throughout Iran, including Bushehr, Jask, Kanark, Abu Musa and Bandar Abbas, with the aim of further undermining Iran's ability to attack navigation balancing
“Our forces have used precision-guided munitions against defense systems, missile and drone sites, and naval capabilities,” she added.
"Currently, more than 50,000 US troops are deployed throughout the Middle East, and US forces will remain in a state of vigilance and high combat readiness," she said.
The strikes were launched after US President Donald Trump announced that the United States intends to launch additional military strikes on Iran, referring to further moves after the resumption of negotiations between the two countries last week.
During an interview with conservative broadcaster Hugh Hewitt, Trump hinted that the United States was closely monitoring Iranian targets, but declined to discuss operational details, saying, “We're going to hit them hard tonight, we're going to hit them hard tomorrow.”
