Iranian Intervention in Neighbouring Countries

Two Iranian armed drones targeted the office of Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister of Iraq's Kurdistan Region, in Erbil, as well as the residence of the head of the Barastan intelligence agency. Kurdish officials condemned the attacks as reckless and a serious escalation violating Iraq's sovereignty. The Kurdistan Region emphasized it has not been involved in regional conflicts. NATO expressed readiness to address any potential Iranian threats following these developments.

The Gulf Cooperation Council and Jordan condemned Iran after Iranian drones struck a government facility and civilian company vehicles on Kuwait's Bubiyan Island. Kuwaiti forces said they intercepted and destroyed hostile drones inside the country's airspace for the third consecutive day, limiting the incident to material damage with no reported casualties. Kuwait's foreign minister also discussed regional developments and diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and safeguard maritime security with his Saudi counterpart.

Saudi Arabia and the United States conducted targeted airstrikes against Iranian-backed militias in Iraq following a series of drone attacks launched from Iraqi territory targeting Saudi oil facilities and other Gulf countries. Saudi defense officials confirmed the interception and destruction of multiple drones and emphasized their right to respond at a time and place of their choosing. Gulf states, including Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan, have repeatedly condemned these attacks and urged the Iraqi government to prevent hostile actions originating from its soil.

Jordan's Royal Air Force intercepted and shot down two drones targeting its territory, likely launched by Iranian-backed Iraqi militias, marking a recent escalation in Iranian proxy attacks. Despite no casualties or damage, Jordan remains cautious, having faced increased Iranian aggression over the past ten days, including missile strikes and drone attacks on vital infrastructure. The country continues to exercise restraint while enhancing its air defenses and crisis alert systems amid ongoing threats from Iran and its allied militias along Jordan's eastern and northern borders.

Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei emphasized Tehran's unwavering policy to defend Lebanese fighters amid ongoing Israeli attacks. In a message to Hezbollah, Khamenei stated that ending Israeli aggression on Lebanon was a key condition in Iran's memorandum of understanding with the United States. He praised Hezbollah's resilience and described the group as a solid barrier against Israel, reaffirming that jihad and resistance remain Iran's chosen strategy in confronting the US and its allies.

Gulf countries and Jordan issued a joint statement condemning continuous Iranian attacks and those by its proxies on their territories since February 28, particularly targeting Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan. The attacks have focused on civilian infrastructure such as energy facilities, desalination plants, ports, and airports. The statement emphasized these acts violate international law and UN Security Council Resolution 2817, affirming their right to self-defense. They also welcomed Iraq's decision to centralize weapons control by September 30 to prevent militia aggression linked to Iran.
