New Strikes Target Iran’s Southern Coast

Summary: Strikes resumed on coastal areas in southern Iran on Tuesday afternoon, with the sound of five explosions heard west of Bandar Abbas, near the Strait of Hormuz, and four sites in the city of Bushehr hit by projectiles, hours after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the end of a five-hour wave of attacks targeting military sites along the Iranian coast.

Iranian state television reported that the sound of five explosions was heard west of Bandar Abbas, without providing immediate details about the targeted sites or the extent of the damage.

The Revolutionary Guard-affiliated Fars News Agency quoted the office of the governor of Hormozgan province as saying that a projectile hit an area west of Bandar Abbas, with no casualties reported. The agency had previously reported that three people were killed in the province as a result of US strikes carried out overnight.

Bandar Abbas is located opposite the Strait of Hormuz and contains naval and military installations and major ports. It has been subjected to a series of US strikes in recent days amid escalating confrontation over control of navigation in the strait.

CENTCOM said earlier on Tuesday that the wave of attacks, which lasted about five hours, targeted "military targets" in Bandar Abbas, Bushehr, Chabahar, Jask, Konarak, and Abu Musa Island, with the aim of degrading Iran's capability to attack commercial vessels.

In Bushehr, the Iranian Labor News Agency (ILNA) reported that several explosions were heard, before the deputy for political and security affairs in the province said that four sites inside the city were hit by projectiles on Tuesday afternoon.

The official said the strikes came as part of what he described as "the continued violation of the ceasefire and the memorandum of understanding by the American enemy," without specifying the nature of the targeted sites or providing a casualty toll.

Fars News Agency also reported that the sound of explosions was heard in Bushehr and the Chahgadak area located to its south. The nature of the targets or the extent of the damage was not immediately clear.

Bushehr province contains military and oil facilities, in addition to Iran's only nuclear power plant. Iranian reports did not indicate that the nuclear facility was hit in the recent strikes.
